Volleyball World Cup opened new horizons for WVBF!

(Lausanne on 24.12.08) It was under the snow that the first WVBF Men Volleyball World
Cup-Cadempino in Lugano took place. For the occasion six teams: USA, Bolivia, Brazil,
Slovenia, Italy and Zimbabwe were invited to compete in four days in the beautiful sport hall
of Palamondo Lugano Switzerland. At the last minute, the team National Zimbabwe, chaired
by Neil Chamisa, was unable to obtain permission to join the other participants because of
the cholera epidemic that creates thousands of dead in his country.
At the rate of 2 games per day, the Brazilians dominated the tournament winning all the
matches. Not really surprising given the level and the mindset of this training Conduct hands
of master Alfio Sacchi, President of the APAV. Although the Americans, to impressive
physical and led by Said Souikane, have shown that sometimes the tournament was within
their reach; they will be defeated by Brazil and took the second place.
The third place taken by the experienced team Slovenia, led by its captain Greg Lah,
defeated the young national team Bolivia, headed by Bernardo Pavisic, which shown
throughout the tournament a potential combativeness any event, but experience has failed in
the important moments.
The team of Italy, under the leadership of Vittorio Silvestri, President of the FIBV, took the
fifth and last place in the competition; not easy to measure with the strongest World teams
but the game shown by this team often reached the height of the tournament since the rallies
were mostly very much disputed. The title of “best player” of the World Cup was awarded to
the American setter Ty Tramblie.
"The tournament was a complete success due to Lasse Svensson, Head of the
competitions, Florian Urfer, WVBF Volleybal Manager, and Paolo Tarchini, President of the
Swiss Association of Volleyball Beach Volleyball, "exclaimed Jean-Pierre Seppey, WVBF
President.

(Lausanne on the 14 November 08) The World Volleyball and Beachvolleyball Federation (WVBF in
the text) will organise her first volleyball world cup from 10 to 14 december in Lugano (Switzerland).
Founded in 2006, the WVBF , the only world Volleyball and Beach Volleyball Federation who respects
the Olympic Charter and the Olympic values has the mission to rehabilitating a noble sport to often
soiled by unscrupulous leaders and the inequity in the distribution of money.
Six world class teams (Brazil, Bolivia, Slovenia, Zimbabwe, Italy and USA) are going to get down for
four days in a proper respect for highest bodies in world sport’s values as the International Olympic
Commitee (IOC), the World anti – Doping Agency (WADA) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
Jean Pierre Seppey, WVBF President and the only democratically elected President since 2002 is
proud to announce that : « the WVBF world cup in Lugano is going to be the first Volleyball world cup
in Europe, it represents the large gathering of athletes Under the flag of the only World volleyball and
Beach volleyball Federation firmly committed to youth and the poorest countries. »
For Geneviève Mendoza – Lavanchy, WVBF Vice President and development President : « this world
cup is unique and unprecedented because it gives the opportunity to poorer countries’ athletes to
meet European and American athletes in a spirit of sharing and enrichment. »
Apart from the ethical side of the event, the athletes promise to be remarkable. Some very talented
young athletes are going to play with some others whose experience of top level competition is
already significant. President of the Control Committee of the WVBF, Lasse Svenssen, Sweden,
believes that "the proposed level matches will delight the spectators as the media worldwide."
Paolo Tarchini, President of the Volleyball and Beach Volleyball Swiss Association of Volleyball
(ASVB) and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the World Cup, recalled: "tickets phase
qualifiers will be free," new proof of ambition organizers to hold a popular event, not elitist, a
celebration of World or any volleyball, initiated or uninitiated are welcome.
The WVBF Men Volleyball World Cup Presented by Cornèrcard is going to be held from 10 to 14
December 2008 in the sports complex of Palamondo in Cadempino. The opening ceremony will begin
on December 10 at 6 :30 PM and will feature children from everywhere in Ticino scrolling and living
the ceremony for an hour with the participating delegations. The WVBF also will held her biennal
congress in Lugano during the same period.
